According to Tesla's website, the Cybertruck has an "ultra-hard stainless-steel exoskeleton" where every "component is designed for superior strength and endurance, from stainless-steel structural skin to Tesla armor glass." They failed to mention that things like rain, bird poop, snow, hard water, and other environmental matter will adversely affect the steel. That’s partially because the Cybertruck does not come with a clear coat, a standard feature in most new vehicles, which provides a layer of protection over the color coat. Instead, Tesla offers a $5,000 urethane-based film option for Cybertruck owners, described as a "premium satin clear paint film" available exclusively through Tesla. But the jury is out on that as there is not sufficient real-world data on the longevity and effectiveness of the Tesla film.
Some Cybertruck owners have resorted to vinyl wraps or PPF, but even then, it will not protect 100% of the truck’s exoskeleton.
